The boy leaned away from the window, and levered himself into the center seat of his row. "God said, 'Let there be light', and there was light."

"I didn't hear you."

He scooted into the aisle seat, beaming mysteriously, his piercing, hypnotic gaze unwavering. "And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness."

"What?" she asked, her expression souring with frustration. "Speak up, child."

Leaning across the aisle to meet her, head to head, he added softly, "God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night."
