"Because we all face the threat of his eventual retaliation, once we come into contact with him. Your turn is coming, Ms. Jones. I hope that mine has passed." He shuddered visibly, and let go her hand to recline once more into his comfortable seat. "Perhaps I shall sleep, again."
Cassandra opened her mouth to reply, but pressed her lips tightly together, instead. Returning her gaze to the boy, she watched him laugh too obviously, while the frightened children surrounding him exchanged nervous and terrified glances. They all seemed to silently wonder, 'Who's next?'

Theirs was a long, breezy drive. Texas was a wide, arid state.
The boy laid his head against the thick, tinted glass of his window, and watched the landscape scroll before his eyes. He alternated his view between the scenery beyond the windshield, and his own reflection, which shone on its smooth surface. His own blue eyes peered deeply into his gaze, attempting to fathom the depths of his own inscrutable thoughts. When he smiled secretly at himself, the reflection imitated his movements with even rows of sparkling white teeth, which split his angelic face with a brilliant gleam.
As his skull rocked gently back and forth against the glass with the gentle motion of the highway-bound bus, he whispered softly, "I am a blank slate. I am page one of chapter one of book one. I am a fresh dawn, and a new day. I am… unknown."
