"What is it? What is it? What is it?" Ron was moaning over and over again. Mike glanced over at his brother-in-law, surprised he could suddenly hear him. The noise had diminished. Then he saw the light had also diminished, leaving Ron's face painted in a low, red glow.

Mike slammed on the brakes, bringing the truck to a gravel grinding stop. A cloud of dust engulfed them. He noticed for the first time he hadn't turned on the headlights. "SHHHH!" he whispered.

With a choke, Ron fell silent. "Where is it, now?"

"Up ahead somewhere. I think it landed."

"That's impossible!" Ron whispered fiercely. "There wasn't any explosion! No fire ball! With a meteor THAT big, we should both be vaporized!"
