Finished with her immediate duties, the nurse responded by ruffling his hair playfully. As she left the room, she said, "Because sometimes, Damon, a person can be broken way down deep inside, where nobody can easily see, and it takes another person, a person like Doctor Edwards, to see what's wrong and fix it. Or," she added, hanging in the half-open door, "To see that everything's okay, so your parents won't worry. Okay?"
