And a King to Sit His Throne
Chapter 12 Page 31
Ipani smacked his lips and lifted the freshly signed deed. "This, above all else that has transpired today, is a dream come true. For this, Sir Epsilon, is the Swooning Dragon!"
As he stood, the Ritesman replied, "I had wondered about that. What will you do with it? Replace your old boss?"
The little man was aghast, "Never, sir! The master of this house has been a kind and decent man. Like you, he has never held my stature against me, but rather offered me a job when other proprietors drove me off as a freak. He has long suffered the high cost of renting this place, though its owner was unknown to him. Once, he told me that demons would come in the night to make certain he was not late with the payments. I thought he was joking." Ipani stood and followed Epsilon down the stairs. "Now he shall be rewarded for his kind treatment of me. Am I being too extravagant, in your opinion?"
The Ritesman shrugged his broad shoulders as he stomped along. "It is the nature of a king to reward his loyal subjects. Tell me, what was his rent?"
"Ten thousand shecks a month."
