Ipani remained skeptical. He shifted uncomfortably in his comfortable seat. "Your words make it sound so easy and pleasant. Yet I am not certain I would relish such responsibility and power. Still I see no loyal army in these plans you have devised!"
Epsilon made a placating motion with his hands. "I will explain the recruitment of your armed forces presently. First I must know, will you accept this charge of kingship I am offering, if I provide you with a private force of loyal men?"
"With a personal army to guard my riches, how could I refuse?"
"Then let me divulge my martial plans for the resurrection of Oreset's army." Epsilon reached for and enjoyed a chaw of jillroot, despite his empty stomach, and masticated thoughtfully for a bit. When he spoke it was with a deliberate, professional tone, and there was not the slightest doubt in his words.
"As king, your first order of business should be the removal of all potential rivals to your rule. The Home Guard and the Round Table of rogues are your greatest threats in this regard, as I see it. Fortunately for your needs, however, these two forces are opposed, which means you may play them relatively effortlessly, one against the other. It is my opinion, Sire, that you should favor the Home Guard in these games, and use its ranks as the core of your new army.
