"What is your formal name, Vernin?"
"Vernin Lassiter's Son."
"Lassiter, eh? It is good to know your father's name." Epsilon picked up a quill and dabbed it in ink. He fixed the boy's name into the blank that declared the new landowner. "Now, Son of Lassiter, you are a man of property. Here is your smithery and a new home for your family."
The boy accepted with trembling hands, and mumbled over the words scribed upon the deeds. He could read enough to recognize his name, at least, and a few of the most obvious details.
"Once I have installed the king within his seat of power, he shall have an army, and need of a good smith. We will garrison the estate to keep you both safe, thereby slaying two dragons with a single stroke. What do you think?"
