The room darkened perceptibly, and Christen's demeanor clouded over accordingly. He stewed in his uncomfortable seat, his shattered limbs arranged awkwardly in their casts, as he counted the floor tiles beneath his dangling toes.
Eventually, his eyes fell on the windowsill, where he noticed a single sheet of paper lying in the slanted sunlight. Curious to see handwriting scrawled there, he rolled his chair forward slightly with a thumb, until he could read its words.
With a spidery hand, she had written, 'Demons Live Among Us'. Christen's brow crossed, and his nose wrinkled. He longed to reach for the paper and examine it more closely. He tried for it with his bound left hand, knocking it to the floor beyond recovery.
Pushing away from the wall with a painful flex of his right leg, Christen's body rolled backward into the center of the room, as his eyes rolled backward into the bloody red depths of his skull. In silence, he sat there, pondering the stark nature of absolute evil. He wondered why Rachel had confided in him as she had, and he wondered why he had lied to her about his experiences beyond the veil of human existence.
