"I'm glad to help." She gathered her various documents, apparently preparing to leave, and his heart sank.
"Rachel?" he asked anxiously, instantly sorry that he had spoken.
"Yes?" she returned innocently.
"I- I- I wonder if there's anyway I can repay your generosity," he offered lamely.
Again, she took his hand in hers. "Your smile is enough, Mr. Bass," she returned professionally. When his expression indicated that he felt she was condescending, she added, "Maybe you could buy me lunch when I stop by to check on you in a few days. How does that strike you?"
